bullet_news Fishdom and Puzzle Hero

Jun 27. 2008
gameimage
gameimage

It's Friday morning here in Finland and we've been checking out the latest games. We were glad to discover that the two most recent releases are both great. They are Fishdom and Puzzle Hero. Both games have a classic core of match three, but at the same time they are both unique.

In Fishdom you can build your own aquarium with all the plants, fish, and accessories. To build it you must earn money by playing a beautiful match three game. The concept is simple and effective. The alternating phases of playing a puzzle and building your aquarium work well. We can recommend this game to anyone.

Puzzle Hero is also a basic match three game but the similarity ends there. In this game you fight all kinds of pests by playing a match three game. The game introduces special moves and a shop where you can buy better equipment for your hero. The game is definitely worth a try also.

bullet_news Spore Creature Creator

Jun 17. 2008
gameimage

Have you ever heard of Spore? Spore is a strange new game from the creator of Sims. The Sims has reached an immensely vast audience of players and it has sold more copies than any other PC game. Therefore I think Spore deserves a small note. It remains to be seen how the actual game turns out, but today on June 17 Spore Creature Creator will be released. It is an easy-to-use editor where you get to design your very own creatures! From what I've gathered previouly, it should be great fun. Eventually your creations will populate the Spore universe and people all over the world may see them. You can download the trial version of Spore Creature Creator from here.

bullet_news Little Farm

May 22. 2008
gameimage

Little Farm is a really nice action puzzle. The idea is to water plants and harvest them. This is achieved by drawing a square on the grid of plants. Each corner of the square has to have the same plant/color. There are also some variations to this mechanic in the game. The bigger the square, the better the money. Earnings can be spent on all kinds of upgrades. The game looks and sounds nice and there seems to be a lot of different fun things to buy along the way. If you'd like to know more, just grab the game from here.

May 4. 2008
gameimage

We've been getting really good games for the past two weeks and now we have Build-a-lot 2: Town of the Year for you. The first Build-a-lot game was released about six months ago. The game was an instant hit and Hipsoft didn't hesitate to make a sequel. The great game play hasn't changed: buy houses, build houses, improve houses, collect rent, and sell houses. Usually your goal is to build houses of certain types or just collect enough money. The game is one of the best lightweight strategy games there is. Everyone should definitely try it out! Unfortunately the sequel isn't available for Mac OS X yet. However, all is not lost for Mac users as you can hone your building skills in the previous Build-a-lot game.

We have now completed a basic section for Mac games. It has a few featured games, a top 20 list, and an alphabetical list of games for Mac. You can also search only mac games by checking the "Show only Mac games" checkbox in the search box. We will continue developing our Mac side in the future also.

You should check out Dream Chronicles 2 for PC and Mac. It reminds me of Myst, which was a very well known game back in the 90s. Myst was one of the first CD-ROM games and it was first published for Macs in 1993. Back then Myst looked so great, that it set the standard for the contemporaries. Mentioning Dream Chronicles 2 is only fitting, as it looks also stunning also.

bullet_news A Game Called Coffee Rush

Feb 25. 2008
gameimage

When I first glanced at the screenshots of Coffee Rush, I was quite sure that this one is a lot like Burger Rush. Not too suprisingly, as it turns out, Coffee Rush has used a thing or two from Burger Rush. Luckily the game has a lot of unique qualities also. The plot is simple: fight against an evil mega corp that produces cheap low quality coffee and sells it with maximum profit. The core game mechanic is match three combined with creation of different cups of coffee out of different ingredients such as coffee beans, milk, and sugar. Is it too much like Burger Rush? I think the players can decide that, if there even is an answer to such a question. So, click here to download.

bullet_news Seek And Find

Feb 15. 2008
gameimage
gameimage

Whoa, it's been a while since I had time to write here. And because of that, I decided to tell about two new games which are both representatives of the popular seek-and-find genre, or "hidden object games", as some might say.

The Nightshift Code is a traditional seek-and-find game. I suppose practically everyone knows the game type. If you don't, try them and find out. The Nightshift Code has a nice story which makes it stand out a bit. Other than that, the basic game play is simple but the quality and mood is nice.

Spirit of Wandering: The Legend is also a classic seek-and-find game. The mission is to free the spirits of various piratey-people. There are some small twists, which make the game a little bit better. For example, when you need a hint, you are given a compass, which points to an item you have to find as you move the compass around the screen. I think the compass is a bit more interesting than the normal "spawn some starry effects" -method. Also, the game lets you peek in to a another world through a magical lens, where you have to find special items.

Personally I liked Spirit of Wandering more than The Nightshift Code. However, both seem to be good games, so give them a try.

bullet_news Try Turbo Subs

Jan 19. 2008
gameimage

The creators of Turbo Pizza were quick to make a sequel called Turbo Subs. The basic idea is familiar and comfortable: serve food to customers as quickly and efficiently as possible. This time the food is subs and your restaurant is in a subway car! In Turbo Subs the twist is the Turbo-mode, where everything moves a bit quicker. To start the turbo-mode, you need to fill the turbo-meter by playing efficiently. You can also update the machines, redecorate your restaurant and train your staff. There are several types of customers and they are well animated. All in all the game is a great sequel and we enjoyed it even a bit more than the first one. So click here to download and try this great game.

bullet_news Play Chocolatier 2

Jan 8. 2008
gameimage

The first Chocolatier was a great game, but we think that sequel is even better! The goal in Chocolatier 2 is to buy ingredients at low price, make chocolate as fast as possible by playing an action game, and then selling the products for profit. Some of the flaws from the previous Chocolatier have corrected. For example, making the chocolates is easier on the eyes (no rotating wheels). Also, old fans of this game should be pleased, since the world has been developed and there are a lot of new game play elements.

So download Chocolatier 2 as soon as possible. Everyone should really try this game. We added some Chocolatier 2 tips below. Have fun playing!

  • Always have some cash available to buy the cheapest ingredients.
  • Keep your stocks full to keep your factories running, that's your main source of money
  • Certain ingredients are a lot cheaper when in season - buy a lot at that point
  • Try to use the recipes which make the most profit to advance quicker
  • Optimize your production by practicing the action game.
  • Try the raspberry chocolate recipe, it should make a lot of money early in the game.

The main goal is to improve the property value and curb appeal. To some this may sound boring, but in this game it isn't!

Forgotten Riddles: The Mayan Princess is a new game from Big Fish Games. It features some new twists while still sticking with the good old seek-and-find mechanic. The game will be available on Thursday, October 4th.

bullet_news Paradise Pet Salon

Sep 18. 2007
gameimage

Already tired of taking care of human business? If so, head on to the Paradise Pet Salon, where you work with our furry little friends in a pet spa of your dreams. As if working with cute pets wasn't enough, you work with cute pets against an evil megacorporation!

The game has two main screens: the actual game and the store screen. The gameplay is similar to for example Sally's Salon where you choose a customer and then show her to the desired "machine". In Pet Salon you click a customer and then click a suitable machine. You get more money by chaining more actions.

In the store screen you can upgrade and customize your salon. You can buy new machines and even choose the floor tiling and other decorations. So you can use a bit of creativity when personalizing your own Pet Salon.

Overall the game is nice but there are a couple of shortcomings. The user interface was not that responsive and some of the animations were jerky. Other than that the presentation is good middle range. Now, get your own Paradise Pet Salon and bring that evil megacorporation down!

bullet_news A Wedding Marathon: Wedding Dash

Sep 11. 2007
gameimage

Personally I like weddings as great parties. This is probably because I have been lucky enough to attend only those weddings which had a high fun factor and no catastrophies or boredom. The basic concept is familiar from the Diner Dash-series: seat the cust... guests, bring food to the table, and keep them happy. There is a minigame where you select the food you serve and the honeymoon trip for the newly weds according to some tips. If you get these right, you get a small bonus. I also asked my significant other to play this game to see if she would have an opinion about it.

Allthough she enjoyed playing the game in the end there was a lot of criticism. For example the guests were too similar in her opinion and the venues did not change enough. Also she thought that the level goals were too ambiguous and the seating order was emphasized too much. She could not quite tell why she kept playing the game despite the shortcomings. So the game is not perfect in her opinion, but it is fun to play nonetheless. I gues it's the simple and straightforward game mechanics which keeps the player interested. Wedding Dash is a fine addition to the Dash-series, but you better try it yourself.

bullet_news Zen Gems and Delicious 2 Deluxe

Sep 4. 2007
gameimage
gameimage

We found our favorite from the games released during the past few weeks. The game is called Zen Gems. Zen Gems is a beautiful game with unique game mechanics. The basic idea is to drop colored orbs from the top of the screen and form groups on the bottom. When you form a group which contains at least three orbs, they disappear. There are numerous special items such as fireball which destroy fixed blocks and pusher balls which push the orbs on the bottom around. The pusher balls are also important if you really want to master the game. Try out Zen Gems for some entertaining ball dropping!

Also check out the sequel to Delicious Deluxe: Delicious 2 Deluxe. It has been a hit game at MythPeople for a while. The basic stuff is all there: serve customers, buy upgrades, and save the family's finances. If you liked the previous one, it is quite certain that you like this too.

We've just received Sally's Salon and I have to admit that it is one of the most interesting time management games in a while. In this game you run a salon where you make money by doing haircuts. The basic game play usually goes like this: a customer walks in, you drag the customer to a suitable chair, then you wash her hair and after that you'll do the haircut. You get to choose the hairdo and if you make the right choice the customer will be pleased! After the haircut the customer may require a hair dryer. After that she'll walk to the cash register. You can also upgrade your shop with various items and eventually you'll move to a new shop since Sally's ultimate goal is to have a coast to coast chain of salons. So grab the game and help Sally fulfill her dream!

Posh Shop has been quite popular at mythpeople.com lately. This game is especially for those who like clothes and boutiques. In Posh Shop you assemble costumes which are constructed from pieces of different clothing such as tops, skirts, shirts, and pants. The customers order these costumes and when you deliver them, you receive money. With the money you can buy new costume models and other improvements. There are about a dozen different hidden object games (some call them seek and find games also). However this game is really one of the best. The graphics are excellent and the music is moody and swingy. Even the story and overall writing are good. It really is a challenge to make a better hidden object game than this. The font used to write the item names could be clearer since I read "a mop" as "a map" and sought a non-existing map for a while :) Other than that the game is pure joy. So you better download the game to make sure you aren't missing out on some premium quality fun.

bullet_news The Apprentice: Los Angeles

Apr 28. 2007
gameimage

The Apprentice: Los Angeles is the latest in time management games. The best thing is that you kind of get four games in one. The Apprentice has four different game modes: renting beach equipment, serving customers in a sushi bar, managing a boutique, and socializing in a celebrity ball. The game looks good and the playability leaves little to be desired. The characters are well animated and have a wide set of gestures and actions. This game should be a hit among the fans of time management or Donald Trump.

bullet_news Magic Academy and Little Shop of Treasures

Apr 14. 2007

Hidden object games have been very popular lately and there are a lot of them. We'd like to mention two most recent incarnations of this popular game type. The basic idea in both games is to spot objects or differences in different sceneries within certain time limits. There is also some kind of penalty if you try the find the objects by clicking randomly. In Little Shop of Treasures you need to help the customers of shop owners to find different items. Your goal is to collect enough money to open your own shop. The second game is called Magic Academy, which is set in a fantasy world with spells, wizards, ghosts, and magical artifacts. In Magic Academy your main task is to solve the mystery of your missing sister. Although the games have similar mechanics the themes and details vary.

bullet_news Burger Rush Tips

Apr 10. 2007
gameimage

Let's face it: Burger Rush isn't always as easy as just flipping burgers. Hopefully this short list of tips will help you earn that extra buck when it's needed:

  • Collect as many tokens as you can, as early in the game as you can.
  • Upgrade the drinks and fries machines to provide extras with fewer matches.
  • If the customer is happy, wait until you can serve him drinks also (or even fries or both to maximize profit).
  • Try to have as many customers as you can at the end of the day, so that you will have still orders to fill after the shop closes.
  • If the customers are happy when the shop has closed, keep matching and deliver orders with all available extras. Use treats to make them happier before serving.
  • In later levels it's profitable to serve customers treats before the hamburger because they get angrier more easily and angry customers pay less.
  • Customers pay the same price from drinks and fries even though they are angry.
  • Consider saving at least some of your tokens for the hard spots.
  • Nothing beats good matching :)

bullet_news Flip Burgers in Burger Rush

Apr 6. 2007
gameimage

Burger Rush is just out and we decided to put up a small note about it. In Burger Rush the player has to match ingredients which form a burger and then serve the burgers for waiting customers. For example a burger may need six pieces of lettuce, two pieces of ketchup, and four pieces of beef. Player needs to match these from the game board and after the necessary matches have been made, the burger can be served by clicking it. There are lots of upgrades and twists along the way also. Graphics are nice and the music is swingy. Give this "burger flipping match three game with a twist" a try!

Back in 1999 GameHouse published the first Collapse game. The game was a huge hit and since then GameHouse has produced a respectable amount of followers. In Collapse games you just need to find rows and columns of three or more like-colored blocks and then click them to make them disappear. The most recent incarnation is Super Collapse! Puzzle Gallery which we just got yesterday. Because of that we wanted to give you a rundown of all collapse games we have available.

bullet_news Games for Sunday

Mar 25. 2007
gameimage
gameimage

We'd like to put up a few words on a couple of recent games we liked. The games have a bit in common since they both have a bit more depth than usual. One of them is a sequel to the magnificent Virtual Villagers and the other is a newcomer where you run a potion business.

Fairy Godmother Tycoon centers on buying ingredients and making potions out of them. Of course you need to make a profit also. You also need to take care of marketing, pricing, and keep your premises up to date with updates among other things. Even though this seems like a lot at first, the tutorials are good and by following them everyone should get the hang of it. So give it a try!

In Virtual Villagers 2 you are the sole guardian of a small tribe. The goal is to make the small society of villagers better. To succeed you need to make right decisions: which villager goes to fish and which starts to improve your buildings and so on. The game play is easy going even though there is a lot to do. If you need a break, try taking it on the beautiful island of Isola with some of the villagers.

Both games provide a of lot fun hours to play so they should be good value. They require a bit more time to get into than most of the games but if you like it, the reward is just great. Maybe you just better see for yourself.

bullet_news A New Look

Mar 21. 2007

As you can see we have renovated our site. It should be now easier to use. The new version should look good with all common relatively new browsers but we recommend Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7 for best results. The old version was getting cluttered and there was a lot of unnecessary stuff so we pretty much cleaned everything. As always, we will continue improving this version also. We are also committed to supply some original new content every now and then, so check back often!

Also try the GameQuiz! In this web game you have to guess or know from which game a picture is from. There are a total of 10 levels and you need to get 8 right to get to the next level. If you reach level 10, you may submit your score to the "experts list".

bullet_news Game Gekko will be Myth People

Jul 28. 2006

As you may have noticed this site is similar to GameGekko. We decided to change our name. This is because GameGekko could have been confused with GameGecko. GameGecko is a different site that offers flash games. Coming up with a new name took a while but finally we had Myth People. Everything else but the name stays quite the same.

bullet_news The Brave New Site

Jan 8. 2006

The new version of Game Gekko site is ready. This is the Phase 1 of our new version 2.0. The previous version was pretty simple and it was made in a hurry quite some time ago. This version has received a little more care and it obviously offers more to our visitors. This time we can offer a nice starting point for any casual gamer with the newest games straight from Reflexive Arcade in addition to our own games.

Naturally the Phase 2 will have some more features. One is an in-site Top 10 list. At the moment the Top 10 list is streamed from Reflexive Arcade. Also there are some plans to include some playable content in the form of flash games but it will happen only if we have time to make such games in the first place. Also we are thinking of original ways to offer even more useful content to our visitors.
